Barbara has served on the Board of Directors for the St. Mary's Animal Welfare League and has served as both President and Secretary. While Barbara's husband served 23 years in the Marine Corp, her family lived around the US and Japan. During this time, the entire family was active in rescuing, fostering, and arranging for placement of abandoned and abused cats and dogs in both Japan and the United States. Barbara also worked as a volunteer licensed Wildlife Rehabilitator in Virginia. In an effort to provide the best possible care, Barbara has completed classes in both animal first aid and animal safety. She has also taken Veterinary Assistant courses. As "empty nesters," Barbara and her husband share their home with an Olde English Bulldog, a Dachshund, two cats and a bird, all are rescue animals.
